Men’s and Women’s elevens have been decided by the PCA MVP.

  • New for 2023 – PCA announce Teams of the Month for April
  • Both sides selected using PCA MVP rankings system developed with CricViz
  • Middlesex’s Ryan Higgins and South East Stars Paige Scholfield lead the way

A new monthly addition to the 2023 summer, the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings is to publish a Team of the Month across domestic men’s and women’s cricket.

Using the MVP’s unique algorithm, both elevens are selected by picking out the game’s top performers across every single domestic fixture in that month.

The MVP works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. Enabling players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings is a true reflection of performance.

The teams have been selected to create a well-balanced side, so that it’s not just the best 11 cricketers according to MVP points. This means players such as Keaton Jennings are unfortunate to be left out due to Ben Compton and Ben Duckett’s blistering form. The pair scored more MVP points on the Overall and Batting tables in April and there’s only space for two openers.

In the men’s game, the first month of the season was purely focused on the LV= Insurance County Championship with Middlesex’s Ryan Higgins enjoying a phenomenal April. The all-rounder leads the way in the MVP rankings on a massive 147 points thanks to scoring 327 runs at an average of 54.5 and taking 12 wickets at 20.4 apiece.

Despite only two games occurring in April for each side in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy in the domestic women’s game, Paige Scholfield managed to amass 47 MVP points, largely thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 111 off 90 balls against Thunder in a 131-run victory.

Teams have been selected solely for games played in April, therefore Rachael Heyhoe Flint fixtures from Monday 1 May are not considered.
