Cricket West Indies (CWI) governs cricket across the West Indies, a confederation of Caribbean countries. Originally established as the West Indies Cricket Board of Control in the 1920s, it became the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in 1996 and was rebranded as Cricket West Indies in May 2017 as part of a restructuring effort.

It is with great sadness we learn of the passing of Mr Owen Arthur, former Prime Minister of Barbados – cricket has lost a true friend. He was a dedicated and passionate cricket follower and supporter of West Indies cricket.

He played a key role in re-development of the historic Kensington Oval to host the Cricket World Cup 2007 and T20 World Cup 2010. CWI offers condolences to his family, friends and the people of Barbados.
