Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) highly anticipated home fixture against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 6 is set to be moved to Guwahati. The decision comes after Kolkata police expressed their inability to provide security for the match due to Ram Navami celebrations on the same day, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Snehasish Ganguly told PTI on Thursday.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had earlier revealed that more than 20,000 processions were planned across West Bengal for the festival. With no possibility of rescheduling the game in Kolkata, CAB requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider an alternative venue. “We have informed the BCCI to reschedule the match, but there is no scope for rescheduling the game in the city later and I’m now hearing that it’s going to be shifted to Guwahati,” Ganguly stated.
The match, featuring two teams with strong local support, was expected to draw a massive crowd, particularly with LSG owned by RPSG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka. However, logistical and security constraints have now led to the likely venue change.
