The Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), founded in 1967 by former England fast bowler Fred Rumsey as the Cricketers' Association, represents past and present first-class cricketers in England and Wales. In the 1970s, the PCA established a standard employment contract and minimum wage for professional cricketers. Grampound Road Cricket Club is one of Cornwall’s Premier recreational cricket clubs. With a playing membership in the region of 150 cricketers (70 adults & 80 juniors), including a Women and girls section.

The Club has 4 Open age Saturday league sides, playing the highest level of club cricket in Cornwall. The youth section has the balanced objectives of providing cricket for all and of developing individual players to their full potential. The club actively supports both the local community with full year round opening of the clubhouse and also the county’s cricketing community by hosting many external festivals and matches from under 9’s through to over 50’s County Matches. The club also has growing numbers playing representative cricket for Cornwall in both the boys and girls County Age Groups as well as full county honours.

The Opportunity

Grampound Road Cricket Club now wishes to develop its coaching and management capacity through the appointment of a Director of Cricket (DoC), who will be involved in all areas of the club’s cricket, including running cricket camps during school holidays. This person will need to strengthen the foundations that are in place and continue to grow and improve cricket at the club. The successful candidate will need to form a link between the junior section and open age teams, ensuring young players are being developed and integrated into senior cricket. As a focal point of the club, applicants need to have good social, organisational, man-management and coaching skills. Some entrepreneurial and business skills would also be of benefit.

The DoC will have access to administrative support. The DoC will agree performance targets covering the following: player development, participation, financial and standing of the club in the local community.

Annual Responsibilities:

  • Improve and sustain the quality of cricket coaching across the Club.
  • Develop and integrate a new Academy for high quality young people aged between 14 and 19 to continue
  • Aid in the development, implementation and monitoring of the programmes for cricket – to fit the stated aims of the club that are a balance between cricket for all and the development of players to their full potential.
  • Develop the provision of Girls Cricket at GRCC.
  • Support GRCC cricketers through the CCB Representative Cricket Age Groups

During the season:

  • Act as Head of youth Coaching working with the volunteer Age Group Managers – Develop and Improve
  • Head of Senior Coaching – develop and deliver the coaching programme for adult cricket, working closely with the team captains – Develop and Improve
  • Play an important role within the partnership between GRCC and surrounding schools, delivering cricketing sessions at the school. – Reach and Grow
  • Increase the number of Active coaches to support the sustainability of GRCC youth and ladies cricket – Reach and Develop

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of coaching cricket to a high level in schools and/or clubs
  • ECB Level Three coaching certificate or higher.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to mentor others to deliver a rewarding cricketing experience for players when the DoC is not present
  • Ability to run GRCC Coaching as a business – delivering on performance targets for cricket development, participation and balancing the books
  • High degree of professionalism including punctuality
  • A supporter of the sporting ethos of Grampound Road Cricket Club

Accountability and Salary:

The successful candidate will be expected to report to the committee. Salary will be discussed as part of the interview process.
