Sam Billings ducks IPL vs PSL comparison: “You want me to say something silly?”

Must Read

England cricketer Sam Billings has shared his candid views on the global landscape of franchise T20 cricket, offering a clear endorsement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the top-tier competition while also acknowledging the efforts of other leagues striving to match its stature.

In a recent media interaction, Billings was asked to compare the various T20 tournaments around the world. His response was both honest and reflective of the current cricketing hierarchy. “You want me to say something silly? It’s hard to look past the IPL as the premier competition in the world, it’s very obvious, every other competition is just behind,” he said.

Billings, who has played across multiple leagues including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), The Hundred, and the Big Bash League (BBL), emphasized that while others are closing the gap, the IPL remains in a league of its own. “In England (T20 Blast and The Hundred), we are trying to do the same like PSL as the second best competition in world, Big Bash (BBL) too trying to do the same,” he added.

His remarks reflect a growing sentiment among international players that the IPL continues to set the benchmark in terms of competition level, infrastructure, and global reach. Meanwhile, leagues like the PSL, BBL, and The Hundred are continuously evolving in an attempt to solidify their status as elite cricketing events.
