Kohli opens up on 15+ years of partnership and mutual trust with Rohit

In a rare moment of reflection, Virat Kohli shared heartfelt insights into his long-standing relationship with Rohit Sharma, highlighting the mutual respect, trust, and leadership collaboration that has defined one of Indian cricket’s most iconic partnerships.

The comments came in a video released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where Kohli traced the evolution of their bond over more than 15 years of international cricket. “I think it’s a very natural thing to take place when you play with someone for so long and you share so much of your insight of the game initially, your learning from each other, you’re kind of growing in your careers at probably the same time, and you share all kind of queries and questions,” Kohli said.

Shared leadership and decision-making behind the scenes

Having served as co-leaders of the Indian team during critical phases, Kohli emphasized the strategic and instinctive alignment he and Rohit developed. “There’s a lot of back and forth that happens and also the fact that we worked very closely in terms of the leadership for the team, so there were always ideas discussed and more or less, we would end up on the same page in terms of the gut feel of that situation — there is a trust factor and do the job for the team,” he said.

The remarks provide rare insight into how India’s two senior-most players navigated years of shared responsibility, team building, and high-pressure decision-making at the international level.

Dispelling narratives of tension

Over the years, media speculation has often focused on alleged tensions between Kohli and Rohit, especially surrounding leadership transitions. Kohli’s recent reflections, however, push back on those narratives—revealing a camaraderie built on experience and shared purpose.

“We have definitely enjoyed our time playing together, so we were able to make our careers long because when we were young, as I said, it was not certain that we would end up playing for 15 years for India,” Kohli said.

Gratitude for the journey and shared legacy

As both players continue to perform at the highest level during IPL 2025 and remain vital to India’s cricketing ambitions, Kohli expressed gratitude for the bond they’ve developed over time.

“The journey for so long and consistently, very grateful and very happy for all the memories, all the moments that we’ve shared and continue to do so,” he concluded.

Kohli’s words offer fans a powerful reminder of the unity and experience that exists behind the scenes of Indian cricket—built on mutual respect, shared leadership, and years of trust at the top of the sport.
