MCC IS DEEPLY SADDENED TO HEAR OF THE DEATH OF EILEEN ASH, AGED 110.

She was the oldest international cricketer ever to have lived and played Test cricket before and after the Second World War, having featured in seven Tests for England between 1937 and 1949.

In 2011, the year in which Eileen was awarded Honorary Life Membership of MCC, she became the first female Test player to reach the age of 100 years old. Six years later, she accepted the honour of ringing the five-minute bell at Lord’s prior to the ICC Women’s World Cup Final, in which England recorded a stunning victory over India.

Eileen’s last visit to Lord’s came in 2019, when she unveiled a portrait of herself during the Men’s Test Match between England and Australia.

MCC would like to offer its sincere condolences to Eileen’s family and friends at this very sad time.
