Melbourne Renegades: New faces in squad for Geelong

Must Read

The Melbourne Renegades have included two new faces in their 13-man squad for Tuesday’s match against the Perth Scorchers at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium.

Former England international Samit Patel and Australian paceman Andrew Fekete join Marcus Harris as the three additions to the selection mix.

They replace Tom Cooper, Joe Mennie and Jack Wildermuth in the 13-man group.

Patel, an all-rounder who bowls slow left-arm orthodox, has 258 matches of Twenty20 experience in several countries under his belt. He has made 28 T20 50s and taken 209 wickets, and was only recently playing for the Qalandars in the Abu Dhabi T10 competition.

An international replacement player for the injured Harry Gurney, Patel has played six Tests and 54 white ball internationals for England, and has been on the County Cricket scene since 2002.

Fekete, meanwhile, is a local replacement player for Mackenzie Harvey, who is now on duty with the Australian Under-19 World Cup team.

He previously played for the Renegades, debuting back in 2013, and has since represented the Sydney Thunder and the Brisbane Heat. Fekete has been on the edge of international selection in years past, having played for Australia A and been picked for the Australian Test squad for the since postponed tour of Bangladesh in 2015.

As for Harris, he returns to the squad after missing selection against the Melbourne Stars on Saturday night.

The Renegades will be searching for their first win of BBL|09, while the Scorchers will meet Shaun Marsh for the first time in Victoria after he left the west ahead of the new season.
