Right-arm leg-spinner and power-hitter Ab Das has been crowned the winner of the 2023 Male Renegades Recruit competition from a pool of hundreds of community cricketers across the state.

Following the tightest public vote in the history of Renegades Recruit alongside fellow finalists Paddy McNamara and Luke McMaster, Das’ triumph means he will now have the opportunity to train and play with the Melbourne Renegades Academy squad in this week’s Top End T20 Series in Darwin.

Das is excited for the experience ahead, saying it’s “such a privilege” to win the competition. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity of playing some cricket and pushing higher.”

Named in the Renegades’ 22/23 Champions League Team of the Tournament representing India, Das plays for Bonbeach Cricket Club in the Cricket Southern Bayside competition.

Renegades’ WBBL Coach Simon Helmot described Das as “a very good all-rounder. His leg-spin is very accurate…. and he was probably the best batter we had. He hits 360 degrees with a nice technique and a good temperament.”

In addition to joining the Renegades Academy, the winner also received $1,000 worth of Kookaburra merchandise and $2,000 for their local club, a 55-inch TCL LED Smart TV and more.

We’d like to also congratulate Luke McMaster and Paddy McNamara for making the Final 3, as well as all of our other contestants and everyone who applied to be a part of this year’s program.
