Sydney Thunder stars David Warner and Tanveer Sangha have been named by the National Selection Panel (NSP) for the One Day Series on the upcoming Qantas Tour of South Africa, as well as September’s ODI series against India and in an initial 18-player squad for the ICC 2023 World Cup.

An Australian squad travels to South Africa for three T20 Internationals, starting on August 30, before the five One Day Internationals that Warner and Sangha have been selected for.

Warner has been a fixture of the Australian One Day team for more than a decade, while Sangha is at the other end of the spectrum, having not yet worn the green and gold at senior level. Now the prodigious leg spinner is a step away from being part of Australia’s ICC 2023 World Cup campaign.

A provisional World Cup squad of 15 players will be named in early September, with squad finalisation required on September 28.

Chair of Selectors George Bailey said: “This side has been extremely impressive for several years in limited overs cricket. There is an enormous amount of skill and experience in the group which you need in a World Cup.”
