Our 34-year-old fast bowler has won another award for his performance in the 2023 Men’s Ashes series.

Chris Woakes has been named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July.

Our 34-year-old fast bowler played in all three Ashes Tests in July, having missed out on the first two games of the series through selection.

Woakes made a significant contribution with both bat and ball this summer, taking 19 wickets at an average of 18.15 and scoring the winning runs to get England over the line at Headingley – culminating in him winning the Men’s Ashes Player of the Series Award.

“It’s very nice to have been voted ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July,” Woakes told England Cricket. “Everything we did in the Ashes was a team effort, and no individual awards would be possible without everyone else doing their job but it’s always nice to be recognised, especially when it’s a public vote.

“It was a great series, and I’m just very happy that it captured the imagination and attention of the public so much. It was great to have so much support and it was a hugely enjoyable series to play in.”

Woakes is now playing in The Hundred with Birmingham Phoenix.
