The full schedule for the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup is set to be unveiled in Cape Town on October 1, giving teams and supporters their first complete look at the fixture calendar for cricket’s flagship ODI tournament.
According to a report by Cricbuzz journalist Vijay Tagore, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) will stage the announcement as the countdown reaches one year until the tournament. The event will also launch the process for supporters to register for the World Cup ticket ballot.
World Cup fixture details set for reveal
The schedule announcement will establish the tournament’s match programme ahead of an edition being staged across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The competition will feature 14 teams, expanding the field from the 10-team format used at the previous Men’s Cricket World Cup.
The October 1 event comes immediately after the September 30 qualification cut-off. South Africa and Zimbabwe are guaranteed places as hosts, while eight further teams will qualify through the ICC ODI rankings.
India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are currently positioned to secure those eight places. South Africa’s automatic qualification as a host means ninth-ranked Bangladesh is presently in line to qualify directly despite sitting outside the top eight.
Namibia does not receive automatic qualification despite being a co-host. Four remaining World Cup places will be determined through the qualifying competition, with those teams appearing on the fixture list as Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2, Qualifier 3 and Qualifier 4.
Ticket ballot to open alongside schedule announcement
The ICC will use the Cape Town event to begin the ticketing process as well as reveal the schedule. Supporters will be able to register for the World Cup ticket ballot from October 1, although tickets will not become available for immediate purchase.
The tournament is set to conclude with the final on November 21, 2027. As previously reported by cricexec, an October 2 opening has been under consideration, aligning the start of the World Cup with Gandhi Jayanti and the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth.
The date also carries a connection to co-host South Africa, where Gandhi spent 21 years. The proposed October 2 start has yet to receive formal confirmation, making the upcoming schedule unveiling the point at which the tournament calendar is set to become clear.
New format awaits 14-team field
The expanded World Cup will use a multi-stage competition structure before the semi-finals. The three lowest-ranked teams among the 14 qualifiers will begin in a round-robin Super Series, with the leading team progressing.
That winner will join 11 other teams in the next stage, creating two groups of six. The top three sides in each group and the best remaining team across the two groups will advance to the Super Seven.
The seven remaining teams will then contest 21 round-robin matches, with the top four progressing to the semi-finals. First place in the Super Seven will meet fourth, while second will face third, before the two winners advance to the World Cup final.
With the qualification cut-off arriving immediately before the Cape Town event, the October 1 announcement will bring together the fixture calendar, ticket-ballot launch and a clearer picture of the field for the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
