ACC sets $170 million base price for media rights of upcoming Asia Cup

Must Read

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has set a base price of $170 million for the media rights to multiple tournaments, including the Men’s Asia Cup, Men’s and Women’s Under-19 Asia Cup, and Emerging Teams Asia Cup. The rights cover four editions of the Men’s Asia Cup from 2024 to 2031, with the next edition set for India in 2025 (T20), followed by Bangladesh in 2027 (ODI), Pakistan in 2029 (T20), and Sri Lanka in 2031 (ODI).

The auction, which will include television, digital, and audio rights, is scheduled for November 1. Broadcasters such as Viacom18/Jio Cinema and Disney Star may participate, although a merger between the two remains a possibility.

The flagship Men’s Asia Cup will feature at least two highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan matches in each edition, with the potential for a third if they meet in the final. The last Asia Cup saw India win both group-stage matches against Pakistan and eventually claim the title.

The ACC has confirmed that the auction process will be conducted via e-auction, ensuring fairness and transparency. Interested parties must submit their technical bids in Dubai on October 30.

A key uncertainty ahead of the auction is the number of broadcasters that will participate. Significant attention is on Viacom18/Jio Cinema, backed by Reliance, and Disney Star, particularly whether they will submit separate bids or only one will take part. This uncertainty arises from the pending merger between the two broadcasting companies, for which regulatory approvals have been obtained.
