The 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup remains without an official venue or schedule despite planning for the tournament moving towards its final stages, according to a report by Cricinfo. With participating teams still awaiting formal confirmation from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), preparations for the continental event continue against a backdrop of logistical uncertainty.
The absence of an official announcement has left national boards unable to fully finalise travel and operational plans, even as the expected tournament window draws closer.
Approval process still incomplete
The ACC has informed participating boards that the host venue is “currently being finalised”, indicating that the approval process has not yet been completed despite ongoing preparations.
The governing body has already circulated the tournament’s official logo to participating teams, but confirmation of the venue, fixtures and full schedule has yet to follow.
The lack of a formal announcement has also affected planning outside the ACC itself. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) briefly released India’s squad before withdrawing the announcement after it became clear that the tournament details had not yet been officially confirmed.
UAE expected to stage the tournament
While the governing body has not formally named a host, the United Arab Emirates has emerged as the leading candidate to stage the eight-team competition.
If confirmed, defending champions Sri Lanka will be joined by India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand and the UAE in the tournament.
Current planning points towards teams arriving on August 27, with the competition expected to begin on August 28 before concluding with the final on September 13, although those dates remain subject to official confirmation.
Busy period for participating teams
The proposed schedule would leave only a short gap before the women’s cricket competition begins at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, meaning several Asian sides could move directly from one major tournament to another within days.
That compressed calendar has increased the importance of receiving final confirmation from the ACC, allowing participating boards to complete squad planning, travel arrangements and tournament logistics.
Tournament awaits formal confirmation
The upcoming competition will be the sixth edition of the Women’s Asia Cup in the T20 format and another significant event on the women’s international cricket calendar.
For now, however, the focus remains on the ACC’s formal approval process before the governing body confirms the host nation, playing schedule and remaining operational details for the tournament.
