The Betway SA20 Season 4 Player Auction saw a mass movement of players to various teams across the competition.
The most high-profile move arguably in the history of Betway SA20 saw former Sunrisers Eastern Cape captain Aiden Markram heading to Durban’s Super Giants in Season 4. Markram led the Sunrisers to back-to-back titles along with a runners-up position in Season 3.
DSG will be hoping Markram will have a similar Midas touch at Kingsmead after the Super Kings finished bottom last season. They have though lost their former captain Keshav Maharaj to the Capitals along with youngster Bryce Parsons.
Equally, Dewald Brevis’ move from MI Cape Town to his hometown Pretoria Capitals for a record R16.5 million fee is much anticipated. Brevis was a stellar performer for MICT in their title-winning team last season, and will be keen to make a similar impact at a ground where he virtually learnt his cricket. Brevis will be joined at the Capitals by his fellow former MICT teammate Connor Esterhuizen.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape have compensated for the loss of their skipper Markram with the addition of two Proteas stalwarts in Quinton de Kock and Anrich Nortje. De Kock moves from DSG down to St George’s Park, while Nortje is coming home to Gqeberha after an injury-plagued stint at Pretoria Capitals.
Nortje is likely to take over the role of former Sunrisers stalwart Ottneil Baartman, who has moved to the Paarl Royals.
Baartman will in all probability share the seam bowling duties at Boland Park with Hardus Viljoen, who has joined a record fourth Betway SA20 team for Season 4 – but his previous stints at Durban’s Super Giants, Pretoria Capitals and Joburg Super Kings have all been as a replacement.

The Capitals have placed a major emphasis on bowlers that are familiar with Highveld conditions by recruiting former Paarl Royals duo Lungi Ngidi and Codi Yusuf along with former JSK fast bowler Lizaad Williams.
Both Ngidi and Williams play their domestic cricket at Centurion.
Teenage Proteas left-arm seamer Kwena Maphaka has also swapped Boland Park for Kingsmead after joining Durban’s Super Giants.
