ICC confirms Maguire’s bowling action is now legal following independent review

Aimee Maguire, the Ireland Women’s team spinner, has been cleared to resume bowling in international cricket after undergoing remedial work and a re-assessment of her bowling action, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed today.

Maguire was initially suspended from bowling after being reported for a suspect action during the first ODI of the ICC Women’s Championship series against India in Rajkot on 10 January 2025.

Following work to remodel her action, Maguire underwent an independent assessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre, where the elbow extension in her deliveries was found to be within the 15-degree threshold allowed under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations.

The clearance allows Maguire to return to full international bowling duties, boosting Ireland’s options ahead of upcoming ICC Women’s Championship fixtures and other international assignments.

The ICC confirmed the decision in an official statement and reaffirmed its continued use of scientific testing and biomechanical analysis in assessing suspect bowling actions.
