Ajay Devgn unveiled as Ahmedabad team owner
The Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) has officially announced Bollywood superstar and entrepreneur Ajay Devgn as the owner of its new Ahmedabad franchise. The move adds another layer of celebrity glamour to India’s first tennis-ball T10 league, which has been rapidly expanding its commercial and cultural footprint since launching in 2024.
Devgn, a long-time cricket fan and sports investor, is expected to bring not only financial muscle but also pan-India visibility to the tournament. His Ahmedabad connection—having previously invested in NY Cinemas multiplexes in the city—adds local resonance to the partnership.
ISPL leaders hail Devgn’s entry
League leaders described Devgn’s arrival as a landmark moment for ISPL, underscoring both its sporting ambitions and entertainment appeal.
“ISPL is rooted in the idea of providing a launchpad for dreams for the young and the seasoned in tennis ball cricket. Not only shall our cricketers get the opportunity to play at the highest level, but also a stage to shine. The addition of new teams in the upcoming season will open doors for more aspiring cricketers across the country.”
— Sachin Tendulkar, Core Committee Member, ISPL, said in a statement.
“ISPL is transforming tennis-ball cricket by bringing it to a professional stage. With Ajay Devgn leading the Ahmedabad team, we’re excited to extend opportunities to talent in cricket-rich cities like Ahmedabad.”
— Ashish Shelar, Core Committee Member, ISPL, commented.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ajay Devgn as the owner of Ahmedabad team. He brings immense credibility, reach and energy to ISPL. His passion for cricket, combined with his business acumen, makes him a valuable addition to our league. His presence will undoubtedly inspire fans and players, particularly in Gujarat, where the love for cricket runs deep.”
— Suraj Samat, League Commissioner and Core Committee Member, ISPL, said.
“Ahmedabad boasts a thriving sporting culture. With Mr. Devgn at the helm, we see a powerful opportunity to engage local communities and inspire the next generation of players. This move strengthens our ambition of transforming ISPL into a truly pan-India movement.”
— Minal Amol Kale, Core Committee Member, ISPL, said.
Devgn himself echoed that sentiment, linking his ownership to the broader mission of nurturing grassroots cricket talent.
“ISPL, with its innovative format, has not only discovered fresh talent but also given them a much-needed platform to shine. As the team owner of the Ahmedabad franchise, representing a city with such a rich sporting spirit, it is time for the entire nation to come together and celebrate India’s champions.”

A growing lineup of celebrity owners
With Ahmedabad’s entry, ISPL now fields eight franchises backed by a galaxy of Indian cinema icons, including Amitabh Bachchan (Majhi Mumbai), Salman Khan (New Delhi), Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan (Tiigers of Kolkata), Akshay Kumar (Srinagar Ke Veer), Suriya (Chennai Singams), Hrithik Roshan (Bangalore Strikers), and Ram Charan (Falcon Risers Hyderabad).
The mix of cricket and cinema is central to ISPL’s commercial strategy, blending mass entertainment with grassroots cricket development.
Scaling up for season three
ISPL has already crossed 4.2 million player registrations ahead of its third season, with trials scheduled across 101 cities nationwide. The addition of Ahmedabad further cements its ambition to be a pan-India movement that discovers and develops cricket talent at the street level.
With Devgn’s ownership, ISPL strengthens not only its visibility but also its ability to capture audiences across digital platforms, merchandising, ticketing, and branded content. The league’s growing mix of cricket credibility and celebrity influence positions it as one of the most intriguing innovations in India’s sports entertainment market.
