KINGSTON, Jamaica – After a glittering international career spanning 15 years, Andre Russell has officially stepped away from international cricket, leaving behind an enduring legacy in West Indies cricket as one of its most explosive and impactful players.
From his Test debut in Colombo in 2010 to unforgettable performances in white-ball formats, Russell’s journey with the Men in Maroon has captivated fans around the world. Across 141 international matches, he embodied the modern three-dimensional cricketer — match-winner with the bat, the ball, and in the field.
A fearless force in maroon
Russell’s fearless and powerful style of play made him a fan favorite and a nightmare for opposition teams. Known for hitting monstrous sixes and delivering game-changing spells, no target was too high and no boundary too far.
One of his most iconic knocks came in 2011 against India in Antigua, where his 92 off 64 balls remains the highest ODI score by a number nine batter. He still holds the highest international ODI strike rate of all time — an astonishing 130.22 after 47 innings.

Russell was pivotal in West Indies’ 2012 ICC T20 World Cup victory in Sri Lanka and again in the 2016 edition, when his explosive 43 off 20 balls in the semi-final against India helped carry the team to their second global title.
“A really special moment to me was 2016, when Lendl Simmons and I finished off the game. I got 40-plus and hit the winning six — that gave me goosebumps,” Russell said.
