Ankit Baldi takes over as GMR Sports CEO

The sports executive steps up from his business development, strategy and governance role after joining GMR Sports in June 2025, adding the group-wide position to his leadership of Southern Brave.

Ankit Baldi has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of GMR Sports, stepping up less than 18 months after joining the organisation as Head of Business Development, Strategy and Governance.

The elevation puts Baldi at the helm of GMR Sports after more than 17 years working across sports, media and infrastructure. His experience includes senior roles spanning franchise operations, marketing, strategy and governance.

Baldi announced the appointment on LinkedIn: “I’m delighted to share that I have been appointed Chief Executive Officer of GMR Sports.”

Baldi expands his leadership role at GMR Sports

Baldi joined GMR Sports in June 2025, initially taking responsibility for business development, strategy and governance. His promotion to Chief Executive Officer follows his appointment in January 2026 as Chief Executive Officer of Southern Brave, The Hundred franchise owned by GMR Sports.

Baldi added: “I’m grateful to the leadership and the entire GMR Group for the trust and confidence placed in me. A special thank you to our Chairman and colleagues for their constant support, guidance and belief in what we can build together.”

His new position broadens his responsibilities within a business that operates a portfolio of sporting properties.

Career spans CSK and international cricket franchises

Before moving to GMR Sports, Baldi spent nearly six years with Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited. He served as Head of Operations and Marketing before becoming Chief Operating Officer in September 2024, a position he held until May 2025.

His franchise experience also extended beyond India through roles as Board Director and Head Franchisee at Texas Super Kings and Joburg Super Kings. Earlier in his career, Baldi held positions at The India Cements, IMG Reliance and the Indian Premier League.

The appointment moves Baldi from a strategy and governance-focused position into the top executive role at GMR Sports while he also serves as Southern Brave Chief Executive Officer.
