A quieter BPL opening as focus shifts to cricket
Breaking from its usual fanfare, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will launch the 2025 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with a small-scale opening ceremony in Sylhet on December 26, according to a report by bssnews.net.
Instead of a grand spectacle, the event will feature cultural segments—possibly staged before the first match or between games—highlighting performances by popular local bands. The shift in tone appears to reflect a focus on the cricket itself, with logistical considerations also prompting changes to the matchday schedule.
Match timings adjusted to accommodate festivities
To make room for the cultural program, the BCB has modified the match timings for the opening day. The originally scheduled 2 PM start for the Sylhet Titans vs. Rajshahi Warriors clash has been pushed to 3 PM. A 20-minute interval will also be introduced between the innings.
The second match of the day, featuring Noakhali Express and Chattogram Royals, will begin at 7:45 PM under the lights.
Tournament to travel across three cities
The 2025 BPL season will be contested by six franchises, with matches spread across Sylhet, Chattogram, and Dhaka. Sylhet will host the opening leg from December 26 to January 2.
From there, the action will shift to Chattogram between January 5 and January 12, before concluding in Dhaka, which will host its share of matches from January 15 onward. The capital will also stage the eliminator, qualifier, and the final on January 23.
Ticket prices revealed for Sylhet leg
In preparation for the Sylhet fixtures, the BCB has announced the ticket pricing structure, offering a range to suit different fans. Tickets will be priced between Taka 200 (approx. US$ 1.6) and Taka 2,000 (approx. US$ 16.4), depending on the seating gallery.
