The BCCI has scheduled a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai on March 1, 2025, to appoint a new joint secretary, following Devjit Saikia’s elevation to the board’s secretary position. Saikia, formerly with the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), succeeded Jay Shah last month after Shah assumed the role of chairman at the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1.
In a formal notification sent to state associations, the BCCI outlined the agenda: “Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting (hereinafter referred to as SGM) of the BCCI which will be held at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters at Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI.”
The joint secretary’s role is pivotal in managing administrative responsibilities and collaborating with other board members to ensure smooth operations. Given the precedent set with the appointments of the BCCI secretary and treasurer, no election is expected for this position either.
Names circulating for the post include former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya (East Zone), Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) chief Rohan Jaitley (North Zone), and Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) Sanjay Naik (West Zone).
This upcoming SGM marks the second in less than two months. The last was held on January 12, during which Saikia was elected as secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as treasurer, both unopposed.
As per regulations, a 21-day notice is required to convene an SGM, a requirement that the BCCI has duly followed.
