Squad announcement expected next week
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to name its squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 on August 19 or 20, according to Indian media reports. Final deliberations between the selection committee and team management are already underway, with fitness test results for all shortlisted players set to determine the final 15.
Selection battles and injury watch
Reports suggest Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and KL Rahul are likely to miss out, while Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have secured their places. One of the key talking points is whether Test captain Shubman Gill will make the cut for the T20I squad. His exceptional form in the recent Test series against England has made him a strong contender, though no final decision has been made.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion also hinges on passing a fitness test, adding suspense to the announcement.
