The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will dedicate the IPL 2025 closing ceremony to the Indian Armed Forces, commemorating their role in the recently concluded Operation Sindoor. The tribute will take place during the grand finale on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The move comes after a tense and emotional period in the country, where the IPL 2025 season was briefly suspended following the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent cross-border hostilities between India and Pakistan.
Invitations extended to top military leadership
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the cricket board has formally invited senior military leaders to the final. “We have extended an invitation to all Indian Armed Forces chiefs (General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, the Chief of Air Staff), top-ranked officers and soldiers for the IPL final in Ahmedabad to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor,” Saikia told ANI.
Operation Sindoor: a national moment of pride
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians. The operation targeted terrorist camps and infrastructure across Pakistan and Kashmir.
Following retaliatory attacks and drone incursions from Pakistan, India launched a coordinated counter-strike before a ceasefire was announced on May 10, de-escalating the situation.
A patriotic celebration planned for the final
Saikia further emphasized the emotional significance of this year’s IPL closing ceremony. “Yes, the IPL 2025 closing ceremony will honour the Indian Armed Forces,” he told Hindustan Times.
In a statement to the Times of India, he added: “The BCCI salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation. As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces and honour our heroes. While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country. We are proud of our armed forces and thankful to them for ensuring our security and safety at all times.”
The closing ceremony will reportedly include patriotic songs and may feature performances by military bands, as well as appearances by leading Indian singers. “We have sent out invitations to senior armed forces officials for the ceremony. We have also decided to dedicate a few stands in the stadium during the match for the armed forces personnel. The closing ceremony will feature some patriotic songs being played out. It will be a solemn occasion,” Saikia told Times of India.

They’ll be joined by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who clinched their place in the top two with a decisive victory over Lucknow Super Giants in the final league stage fixture.
