IPL franchises have begun implementing the BCCI’s newly introduced compliance and conduct framework following the board’s recent seven-page advisory covering player behaviour, operational protocol and restricted-area activity during IPL 2026. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Punjab Kings were among the teams expected to internally brief players on the updated directives as franchises move to align with tighter governance requirements introduced by the board.
The latest advisory, with the document seen by PTI, forms part of the BCCI’s broader push to strengthen operational oversight across the tournament after several protocol-related concerns emerged during the season. The measures include updated rules covering accreditation requirements, guest access, movement monitoring, vaping restrictions and player-related content activity within controlled team environments.
Punjab Kings’ internal discussions also drew attention because of fast bowler Arshdeep Singh’s significant social-media presence during the tournament. The India international has built a large audience through regular behind-the-scenes reels, travel clips and vlog-style videos posted on Instagram, where he has more than six million followers.
A Punjab Kings team source, however, indicated that the franchise’s planned player briefing was intended to address overall compliance requirements rather than target any individual player. “The CEO will speak to the players after training tonight and read out the guidelines issued by BCCI. There is no player in focus as such. The rules need to be respected and strictly followed,” a team source told PTI.
Franchises asked to implement mandatory compliance measures
The BCCI advisory additionally requires IPL teams to formally communicate the updated directives to players and support staff within a fixed implementation period, while placing direct responsibility on franchise officials for ensuring adherence to the rules.
“The BCCI holds the Team Manager and/or the authorised person from the Franchise jointly and severally responsible for ensuring full compliance with the directives. Convene a mandatory team briefing within 48 hours of receipt of this Advisory to communicate its contents to all players and support staff and obtain a written acknowledgement from each player and support staff member confirming receipt and understanding of the directives,” the BCCI directive stated.
Punjab Kings were set to complete the process within the timeframe outlined by the board as franchises continue adapting to stricter compliance monitoring introduced during the latter stages of IPL 2026.
Punjab Kings currently remain among the leading contenders in the IPL 2026 standings with 13 points from 10 matches and have an opportunity to move to the top of the table with victory over Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala on Sunday as the playoff race intensifies during the final phase of the league stage.
