MELBOURNE — June 2025: Simon Helmot, the championship-winning coach behind the Melbourne Renegades’ WBBL10 triumph, has re-signed with the club for another three seasons, committing through to the end of WBBL13.
Helmot guided the Renegades to their first-ever WBBL title last season, capping off his fourth year at the helm with fearless, high-energy cricket. He will continue in his role as head coach as the team looks to build on its recent success.
“Last season was incredibly special for our group. Winning a title is never easy, which makes this even more rewarding,” said Helmot. “With leaders like James Rosengarten and Sophie Molineux, and a core group passionate about the club, I’m excited by what’s ahead.”
Helmot to lead WBBL program through next era
Helmot has extensive coaching experience in domestic and international cricket, including in the IPL, CPL, and ILT. He previously led the Renegades men’s side from BBL01 to BBL04 and rejoined the club in 2020 before taking over the WBBL squad.
General Manager James Rosengarten praised the coach: “Simon has done a fantastic job creating a high-performing, connected culture. Our WBBL10 win is a testament to that. We’re thrilled to have him continue.”
Rob Cassell joins BBL coaching staff
In other staff news, Rob Cassell has been appointed as BBL Assistant and Bowling Coach. Cassell, who joined Cricket Victoria in May after a stint with Tasmania, will support Cam White and work closely with new recruits Jason Behrendorff and Brendan Doggett.
The Renegades will continue shaping both their WBBL11 and BBL15 rosters at Thursday’s Big Bash Overseas Player Draft.
