June 6, 2025 — Worcestershire Rapids Women have announced that Clare Boycott will take over as the team’s new captain, with her first official outing set for this weekend’s Vitality T20 Blast double-header at Visit Worcestershire New Road.
Boycott, a veteran of the club who made her WCCC debut in 2008, has played over 200 games across age-group and senior cricket. The experienced all-rounder described her appointment as captain as a proud and exciting moment in her career.
“I am absolutely thrilled to get started,” said Boycott. “We’ve had an up and down start to the year, so my focus is to get us back to winning ways. There’s a lot of potential in this group, and I want us to make the most of it, starting this weekend with a big double-header.”
Boycott brings experience and leadership to the Rapids
The 31-year-old all-rounder has been central to the Rapids’ success in recent years, including their 2022 T20 Cup win. She also featured in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy with Central Sparks and boasts career-best List A figures of 6-16.
In 2022, Boycott reached a key milestone by making her 200th appearance for Worcestershire and notched her maiden T20 half-century with a memorable 65 not out against Berkshire. She finished that season with nine wickets and an average of 25 with the bat, highlighted by a top score of 90 not out.

Head Coach Ed Wilson expressed full confidence in Boycott’s appointment:
“Someone with as much experience as Clare is pretty hard to find. She understands the way we want to play and epitomises our values. She was the stand-out candidate to lead this group.”
Boycott has transitioned from a cultured opening batter in the longer format to a reliable lower-order finisher in the Rapids’ T20 side. Her leadership is expected to bring much-needed stability and momentum to a team looking to bounce back after three consecutive defeats in recent weeks.

The Worcestershire Rapids Women began their 2025 campaign with two wins but have since faced a dip in form. Now, with Boycott at the helm, the squad is aiming to get back on track during Sunday’s Vitality T20 Blast double-header against Northants Steelbacks and Derbyshire Falcons.
