Singapore / Windhoek, 23 July 2025 – Cricket Namibia Vice President Polly Negongo has been elected to the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) Board, following his appointment during the ICC Annual General Meeting held in Singapore.

The ACA, which operates under the International Cricket Council (ICC), is the governing body for cricket development and coordination across the African continent. Negongo’s appointment is being celebrated as a key milestone for both Cricket Namibia and the broader African cricket landscape.

Negongo calls for unity and vision in African cricket

Speaking on his appointment, Negongo emphasized a pan-African approach to cricket development:

“It’s time for African cricket nations to come together and strengthen the brand of cricket across the continent. We’ve made strides, but Africa can go much further. Together, we’ll be a stronger force.”

Namibia has emerged as a regional leader in grassroots and development programs, and this new role positions the country to further influence strategic decisions at the continental level.

Strategic focus: development, exposure, and structure

Negongo outlined three major priorities for the ACA Board:

  • Developing cricket in rural and underserved communities
  • Expanding opportunities and platforms for African players
  • Aligning with the ICC’s global growth strategy

“Our focus remains on developing cricket, giving players exposure, and growing the game in rural and developing communities,” he noted. “The only way to improve is to give our players the right platforms — and that starts with unity, structure, and shared vision.”

A commercially sustainable future for African cricket

Looking ahead, Negongo sees major potential in building a professional cricket ecosystem in Africa — including new domestic leagues that attract global talent.

“We want to see African players competing in global cricket leagues and, ultimately, to establish professional African leagues that attract international talent,” he said. “That’s where we’re headed, and I’m privileged to be part of a Board committed to making that vision a reality.”

Cricket Namibia celebrates the milestone

Cricket Namibia congratulated Negongo on the appointment, noting that his leadership and strategic insight will benefit the game continent-wide. His role is expected to bring greater visibility and influence for Namibian cricket at the international level.

As the ACA Board begins its new term, stakeholders across Africa will be watching closely as Negongo and his colleagues drive initiatives to make African cricket more unified, inclusive, and globally competitive.
