Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Dr. Kishore Shallow has issued a heartfelt statement honouring Mr. Condé Riley, who has officially retired as President of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) after nearly two decades of service as a CWI Director.
Dr. Shallow reflected on Riley’s enduring impact on West Indies cricket, describing his retirement as “a moment of quiet grace” marking the end of a remarkable innings.
“To speak of Condé’s contribution is to speak of a man who gave not only his time and his wisdom, but also his unwavering belief in what cricket represents for our people,” said Dr. Shallow.
Two decades of service defined by humility and generosity
Riley’s commitment to the game extended far beyond boardrooms and meetings. According to Dr. Shallow, he often made personal financial sacrifices to ensure that young cricketers could pursue their dreams.
“Few may know the personal sacrifices he made behind the scenes. On many occasions, Condé reached into his own pocket to support young players, refusing to let financial barriers define their futures.”
Dr. Shallow emphasized that Riley’s leadership was rooted in values — not ambition — and that his legacy is one of “pride, discipline, and opportunity” for future generations.
Mutual respect despite differing views
While acknowledging that he and Riley sometimes held differing opinions, Dr. Shallow noted their relationship was always grounded in mutual respect and a shared commitment to West Indies cricket.
“Our differences never eclipsed the shared vision we held for West Indies cricket,” he said.
During the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Barbados, the CWI Board of Directors recognized Riley for his contributions — a moment Dr. Shallow described as a “small tribute to a career defined by conviction and care.”
Legacy of integrity and impact
Riley’s departure from formal leadership does not mark the end of his influence. Dr. Shallow described it as “the close of a chapter written with integrity, compassion, and commitment.”
“Cricket West Indies offers its heartfelt gratitude to Condé. We wish him peace, fulfilment, and the satisfaction that comes from knowing his efforts have helped carry West Indies cricket forward.”
As the Barbados Cricket Association begins a new chapter, Condé Riley’s legacy of service, sacrifice, and steadfast dedication will remain a guiding force within Caribbean cricket.
