Dinesh Karthik, former India wicketkeeper-batter and T20 specialist, has signed with the Sharjah Warriorz ahead of ILT20 Season 4 (2025–26). The high-profile signing comes just before the inaugural ILT20 player auction and sees Karthik replace Kusal Mendis in the JP Duminy-coached squad.

At 40, Karthik brings unmatched experience and a legacy of T20 success to a Sharjah Warriorz core that includes Tim Southee, Tim David, Sikandar Raza, Johnson Charles, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Saurabh Netravalkar.

Karthik brings firepower and leadership to Warriorz squad

I am very excited to be joining the Sharjah Warriorz team for the ILT20 tournament. I know they are a young team, aspiring to do some special things, and I am happy to be here. Sharjah is also one of those iconic stadiums one always wants to play at. And to be a part of the franchise Sharjah Warriorz, makes a dream come true,” said Dinesh Karthik.

Karthik’s presence is expected to bolster the squad with both performance and mentorship, especially as the franchise targets a deep playoff run in the 2025–26 ILT20 season.

Veteran T20 finisher adds new chapter to stellar career

A stalwart of the T20 format, Karthik has accumulated 7,400+ runs in 412 T20 matches at a strike rate of 136.66, including 35 half-centuries. For India, he featured in 60 T20Is with a strike rate of 142.61, earning a reputation as one of the most reliable finishers in the game.

He was a key part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy wins, and also lifted the IPL 2013 title with the Mumbai Indians.

Off the field, Karthik recently served as batting coach for IPL 2025 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he worked closely with Tim David — now a Sharjah Warriorz teammate.

Coaching staff, management hail Karthik’s impact

Sharjah Warriorz head coach JP Duminy welcomed the move, calling Karthik “one of the most innovative minds in T20 cricket.”

The whole world has seen what he is capable of with the bat, and his explosive batting, dynamic personality, and immense experience will surely benefit the younger players significantly during the course of the tournament. I look forward to working with him closely,” Duminy said.

COO Kshemal Waingankar added: “We are elated to be welcoming on board Dinesh Karthik, one of the legends of white-ball cricket in India. His brilliant work ethic, infectious nature, and of course the ability to score very quickly will surely make the Sharjah Warriorz a stronger and more dangerous outfit on the field.”

Sharjah Warriorz eye strong run in ILT20 Season 4

With ILT20 2025–26 marking the league’s first official player auction, Karthik’s arrival signals the Warriorz’s serious intent to challenge for the title. His signing represents more than just a strategic upgrade — it’s a statement of ambition.

For Dinesh Karthik, the Warriorz move adds another chapter to a decorated career that continues to evolve. His leadership, experience, and clutch performances may well prove to be the difference-maker in a competitive ILT20 season ahead.
