Dream11 has completed its transformation from a fantasy sports business into a global sports engagement platform, removing prizes from its offering as it shifts its focus towards a broader range of digital products for sports fans.

The company is now building around sports content, live streaming, scores, statistics, commentary, community features, experiences and social contests. Its next phase will also see Dream11 adopt an AI-first approach designed to personalise the platform around individual users’ preferred sports, competitions, teams and players.

Dream11 targets a wider global sports audience

The new model represents a significant expansion of Dream11’s proposition beyond the fantasy sports product on which the brand was built. The company plans to operate across multiple sports and position the platform as a single destination serving fans internationally.

Dream11 said in an official statement: “Guided by its vision to ‘Make Sports Better’, the company will double down on building a vibrant, interconnected online global sports community. Everything a fan needs will now live on one platform: watch live matches, catch up on last weekend’s race, dive into stats, book a Grand Slam experience, and compete with fellow fans and friends in social contests.”

The strategy brings several forms of sports consumption and fan participation together within the same product, spanning live and on-demand viewing, information services, community interaction and access to sporting experiences.

Dream11 CEO Vaibhav Kokal said in an official statement: “With 300 Million users, Dream11 understands what a true sports fan really wants — not just the sport, but the community. Backed by the best tech talent in the country, we are now building an AI-first sports engagement platform, made in India, for the World.”

Regulatory change reshaped Dream11’s core business

Dream11’s repositioning follows a major change to India’s online gaming environment in 2025. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act introduced a prohibition on offering, operating or facilitating online money games while providing for the promotion of esports and online social gaming.

The legislation provides penalties of up to three years in prison and a fine of up to ₹1 crore for violations. Dream11 subsequently stopped operating its real-money contests, fundamentally changing the business model that had underpinned its fantasy sports operations.

The impact also extended into Indian cricket’s sponsorship market. Dream11 informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that it could no longer continue as lead sponsor of the Indian national team after the regulatory change was expected to significantly affect its revenues.

Its BCCI agreement was valued at close to US$44 million and covered the 2023-2026 period. Dream11 and rival fantasy platform My11Circle together contributed approximately ₹1,000 crore to the BCCI through Indian team and Indian Premier League sponsorship arrangements.

AI and personalisation underpin Dream11’s next phase

Dream11’s redesigned strategy will use AI to shape individual user experiences rather than presenting the same sports offering to its entire audience. Personalisation will be determined by users’ sporting interests, extending across their preferred leagues, teams and players.

The move also takes Dream11 beyond an India-centred proposition by combining its existing user scale with a multi-sport product intended for an international fan base. Its 300 million users provide the foundation for that transition as the company moves away from prize-based fantasy contests and towards a broader sports technology and engagement model.

The completed pivot leaves Dream11 focused on building a global platform around sports viewing, information, community, experiences and social competition, with AI-led personalisation at the centre of its next stage of development.
