The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is reportedly considering retiring the MAK Pataudi Trophy, the traditional prize for Test series between England and India in England. This potential change could take effect during India’s upcoming tour of England in June-July 2025.
The Pataudi Trophy was introduced in 2007 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the first England-India Test match. It honors the Pataudi family, which holds a significant place in cricket history, with both Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi having captained their respective national teams.
While the ECB has not officially confirmed this decision, reports suggest that the board might be considering renaming the trophy to honor more recent cricketing icons from both nations. According to a Cricbuzz report, sources indicate that the family of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi has already been informed of the development.
A source close to the Pataudi family shared insights on the matter, stating, “That is the understanding from the ECB. Apparently, trophies are retired after some time.”
At this stage, the ECB has not provided an official statement on whether the Pataudi Trophy will be retired permanently or if a new trophy will be introduced for future England-India Test series.
