Wellington, NZ – New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has appointed Daryl Gibson, former All Black and current Head of High Performance Coaching at High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ), as its new Chief High Performance Officer, effective next month.
Gibson succeeds Bryan Stronach and brings a powerful mix of elite sports experience, coaching leadership, and academic excellence to the role. He will oversee the high-performance structure across both the BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS programs, including player development, coach pathways, and system sustainability.
From rugby elite to cricket leadership
Currently based in Christchurch, Gibson has led key initiatives at HPSNZ, including:
- The Kia Manawanui coach program for Paris 2024
- Mentorship of over 450 pathway coaches
- Leadership of coach education frameworks like Core Knowledge, Te Hāpaitanga, and Coach Accelerator
He holds a commerce degree and teaching qualification from the University of Canterbury, as well as two Master’s degrees, including one in Sports Coaching from the University of Sydney.
