The Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) has announced the appointment of Georgia Elwiss as the new Vice Chair of the Association, bringing years of on- and off-field experience to the leadership team. She joins Derbyshire’s Anuj Dal, who continues as Vice Chair for the men’s game, in supporting Chair Olly Hannon-Dalby on the PCA Players’ Committee.
Elwiss, 34, will continue her playing career with The Blaze while taking on the governance role, becoming a key voice in representing women’s domestic and international cricketers across England and Wales. Capped 54 times for England between 2011 and 2021, Elwiss has been a consistent champion of the women’s game through her stints with Sussex Women, Loughborough Lightning, Southern Vipers, The Blaze and Welsh Fire.
Elwiss succeeds Heather Knight as Vice Chair
Elwiss takes over from former England captain Heather Knight, who stepped down earlier this year after five years in the role. Knight played a pivotal role in promoting gender equity and helping evolve the PCA’s role in the women’s game.
Following a formal recruitment and interview process, Elwiss was ratified by her peers — an honour she described as deeply meaningful:
“To be ratified by my fellow peers is one of the biggest honours you can receive. I hope I can do them justice and take their views forward to make meaningful change — which starts now.”
Continued impact both on and off the pitch
While taking on her new responsibilities, Elwiss will continue to play professionally. She expressed enthusiasm for contributing to player advocacy while remaining close to the game:
“I wanted to give back to the game and represent women across the counties. This is a nice next step — the game is almost unrecognisable from when I started. It’s time to shift the narrative from just being grateful to pushing for the best.”
Elwiss has already started her role and will attend the PCA Board meeting in September and the PCA Summit in Portugal in October. She has held several leadership and advocacy positions in the past, including:
- Founding member of the England Women’s Player Partnership (EWPP)
- PCA Representative with Southern Vipers
- Inclusion Champion in the PCA’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) work
Protecting the women’s game a priority
Elwiss emphasized that her top priority is ensuring the long-term sustainability and professional development of the women’s game, particularly around The Hundred and county contracts:
“The Hundred is massive for us. Making sure the investment is used wisely and that professionals are supported as they transition is crucial — top coaching, facilities, and representation matter.”
Leadership welcomes Elwiss’s experience
PCA Chair Olly Hannon-Dalby welcomed the appointment:
“I’m thrilled to welcome Georgia onto the PCA Board. She brings a wealth of knowledge and will strengthen the Association. Her work with the EWPP and as an Inclusion Champion shows her commitment to players’ best interests.”
Elwiss said collaboration will be central to her leadership style:
“Some of the most powerful conversations happen in dressing rooms. I want to make sure players’ voices are heard — and that we define what our non-negotiables and standards really are.”
