Cricket Australia’s annual Women and Girls Week will again celebrate the amazing growth in female participation and representation across all levels of cricket.
Running from October 25 until November 1, the national dedicated week aims to celebrate, elevate and grow women’s and girls’ cricket, from Woolworths Cricket Blast through to the elite level.
Since the launch of the Women and Girls Action Plan in 2024, there has been a 44 per cent increase in the number of 5–12-year-old girls registered to play cricket, a 35 per cent increase for girls overall, and a 24 per cent increase for women.
Across Women and Girls Week, Cricket Australia will be sharing the stories of players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and leaders across the week, while celebrations will be happening in community clubs across Australia.
This year, Women and Girls Week coincides with the start of Weber WBBL|12, with matches getting underway from Thursday, when Melbourne Renegades host Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars host reigning champions Hobart Hurricanes in a double-header under lights at Junction Oval.

James Allsopp, Cricket Australia Chief of Cricket, said:
“We’re proud to see the strength of our elite women’s teams and competitions, and the recognition they receive around the world, but we know this does not happen without a
healthy and thriving grassroots foundation for cricket.
“During this Women and Girls Week, we are looking forward to sharing the stories of the remarkable cricketing figures across our country, from grassroots up to the elite level, who play such a pivotal role in shaping the success of cricket.
“We have seen incredible growth in participation rates in women’s and girls’ cricket in recent years, with 5–12-year-old participation numbers in particular increasing by 44 per cent since the launch of our Women and Girls Action Plan, and we hope this week will inspire many more to get involved with cricket as a player, coach, umpire, administrator or volunteer.”
To celebrate Women and Girls Week, Cricket Australia has launched a social media competition for community clubs, with a winning club from each state and territory set to receive a $1000 grant to support the growth of women and girls cricket in their club, along with a signed Australia Women’s playing shirt.
One lucky national winner will receive an additional $2500 grant to support the growth of women’s and girls’ cricket.
