The World Legends Pro T20 League (WLPTL) has officially confirmed Goa Tourism as the ‘Powered By’ sponsor for its inaugural season, set to kick off on January 26 at the 1919 Cricket Stadium in Verna, Goa.
The new T20 league promises to be an international cricketing spectacle, featuring 90 legendary cricketers drafted across six teams. Confirmed players include global stars like Shane Watson, Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis, Chris Gayle, and Faf du Plessis, alongside Indian icons such as Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, and Harbhajan Singh.
Goa’s tourism vision meets global cricket
For over 40 years, Goa Tourism has been instrumental in building Goa’s reputation as one of India’s leading travel destinations. With the addition of WLPTL, the state now enters the global cricket stage, offering residents and tourists a rare chance to see the world’s top T20 legends live.
“Goa is a natural partner for global sporting events,” said Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, IT, E&C and Printing and Stationery. “Hosting the World Legends Pro T20 League aligns with our vision to boost tourism, engage local communities, and create opportunities for businesses and youth.”
Festival-style tournament to boost tourism and hospitality
With the league being run as a single-destination, festival-style event, the partnership with Goa Tourism reflects WLPTL’s ambition to offer not just high-level cricket, but an immersive fan experience set against Goa’s scenic and cultural backdrop.
The league is expected to stimulate local tourism, engage fans from around the world, and attract attention to Goa’s growing reputation as a hub for international sporting events.
“Goa offers the perfect blend of vibrant culture and world-class hospitality,” said Mahesh Bhupathi, CEO of SGSE. “This partnership strengthens our vision to deliver a premium, festival-style cricket experience and firmly position Goa on the global sports calendar.”
