Police confirm arrests after armed attack on cricketer’s home
In a disturbing incident that has raised fresh concerns about the safety of high-profile athletes in Pakistan, national cricket team fast bowler Naseem Shah‘s family home in Lower Dir came under gunfire. According to a report from GeoSuper, five suspects have been taken into custody after unidentified assailants opened fire at Shah’s residence in Mayar, Lower Dir. The attackers targeted the main gate, windows, and a parked vehicle. Police reached the scene shortly after the incident and launched an immediate investigation.
“Unidentified assailants opened fire at the residence of national cricket team fast bowler Naseem Shah,” a police spokesperson confirmed.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. Shah’s family emerged unharmed, while the cricketer himself was not present at the scene, as he is currently in Rawalpindi with the national squad.
Law enforcement reacts swiftly as motive remains unclear
Police have registered a case and detained five suspects for questioning. The motive behind the attack is yet to be officially confirmed, though some reports have speculated it may have stemmed from a land dispute.
“The firing damaged the main gate, windows, and a vehicle at the property. Police reached the scene, and five suspects have been taken into custody. Mayar Police Station has registered a case, and further action is underway to arrest those involved,” police said in an official statement.
Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to determine the cause behind the assault, while law enforcement officials have assured the public that additional measures will be taken to secure the residences of prominent sports figures.
Naseem Shah continues national duty amid ongoing investigation
Despite the alarming incident that occurred on November 10, Naseem Shah has remained focused on cricket and continued training with the Pakistan national team. He featured in the first ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka, held on November 11 in Rawalpindi. Pakistan posted a commanding total of 299/5, powered by an unbeaten 105 off 87 balls from Salman Ali Agha and a steady 62 off 63 deliveries by Hussain Talat.
Sri Lanka fought hard in their chase but ultimately fell short, finishing at 293/9 and losing the match by six runs. Naseem played a key role with the ball, delivering 10 overs—including one maiden—and picking up 2 wickets for 55 runs.
