Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur reflects on the team’s mindset heading into the home World Cup
Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, believes the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 is a defining opportunity — not just for her, but for the entire squad and Indian cricket.
“It’s a chance to create history,” she said. “It’s a home World Cup for all of us and we want to make it special for our supporters who have stood behind the team throughout our journey.”
As India prepares to co-host the marquee tournament alongside Sri Lanka, the squad is focused, united, and determined to lift an elusive ICC trophy — something that has narrowly evaded the team in recent years.
A motivated team with belief and balance
“The journey in the buildup to this World Cup has been enriching,” said Harmanpreet. “It gave us a chance to learn, unlearn and relearn as a team. The fire within us to win an ICC Trophy is stronger than ever.”
India’s recent form, both home and away, has given the team added confidence. With extensive preparation camps in Vizag and the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, the team feels ready to compete at the highest level on home soil.
Strong mix of youth and experience
India’s squad for the Women’s World Cup 2025 features a well-balanced combination of experienced names and exciting young talent:
Batters: Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Pratika Rawal, Richa Ghosh, Uma Chetry
Bowlers: Renuka Singh Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, N Sree Charani, Radha Yadav
All-rounders: Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Amanjot Kaur
“There is plenty of batting talent and a strong bowling attack. Our all-rounders provide the flexibility that’s crucial in World Cups,” Harmanpreet added.
Support staff and fans critical to India’s ambitions
The Indian captain also highlighted the vital role of the support staff in maintaining a positive and cohesive environment. “The vibe around the group has been fantastic, and that’s been driven by our staff. It’s something that will propel us toward our goal.”
As always, the team is counting on the unwavering support of Indian fans. “Their positive energy has always been key to our success. We know they’ll be cheering for us throughout this home World Cup.”
With a clear goal of winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, the Indian women’s team enters the tournament with belief, preparation, and hunger. Harmanpreet Kaur and her squad are ready to turn potential into glory and add a historic chapter to Indian cricket.
