HBL PSL Season 10 is expected to resume later this month after a tense pause triggered by escalating cross-border tensions with India. With only eight matches remaining, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and franchises are working urgently to finalize a restart window between May 16 and May 25.
While an official announcement is still pending, sources close to the league suggest optimism for a resolution. One insider told The Tribune that “an official announcement could be made today.” Franchises have reportedly been asked to prepare teams for arrival in Islamabad by the night of May 14, should the league resume on May 16.
Venue shift, security hurdles, and a race against time
The abrupt suspension of PSL 10 followed a frantic 24-hour decision-making period. The PCB explored multiple venue alternatives, including a possible relocation to the UAE, before ultimately calling off matches. A source told ESPN cricinfo that “players were in no frame of mind to play at this point,” prompting emergency evacuations of overseas players via military airbase.
The official pause came after guidance from Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, amid heightened geopolitical instability. Since then, the PCB has held multiple meetings with stakeholders to align on key operational issues—venues, player availability, and production—especially with broadcast contracts set to expire May 18, the original date of the final.
Foreign player availability remains a challenge
The biggest question mark remains around the return of foreign players. Most overseas stars returned home following the suspension. While some teams remain hopeful of regaining their marquee talent, others are bracing for significant roster changes. The PCB is reportedly considering a replacement draft to allow franchises to bring in available overseas players.
One source indicated that while teams are open to replacements, there’s concern over quality due to overlapping commitments with the IPL and other global T20 leagues. Nevertheless, franchises aim to field full-strength squads as the league resumes its final stretch.
Quetta leads standings as playoff race heats up
Before the disruption, Quetta Gladiators topped the table with six wins from nine matches. Karachi Kings and Islamabad United followed, both on 10 points, with Karachi holding a game in hand. Reigning champions Islamabad had played nine games, securing five wins.
Lahore Qalandars had nine points from eight matches, while Peshawar Zalmi trailed with eight points from nine. Multan Sultans had already been eliminated, winning just one game.

PSL may impact Bangladesh tour and franchise ownership
The PSL’s revised finish could overlap with Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan, set to begin May 21. The tour features five T20Is — two in Faisalabad and three in Lahore. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has confirmed ongoing discussions about potential adjustments.
Meanwhile, PSL 10’s conclusion marks the expiration of 10-year franchise leases. Teams will have the right of first refusal for renewal, and several franchises are pushing for more permanent ownership structures going forward.
Domestic cricket resumes alongside PSL preparations
The PCB has also resumed its domestic schedule. The President’s Trophy Grade II returns May 14, with quarterfinals from May 19–21, semifinals May 24–26, and the final from May 28–31. Regional grassroots events like the Intra-District Challenge Cup and Inter-District U19 One-Day Tournament have also restarted.
