The Pakistan Super League‘s much-anticipated expansion took a dramatic leap forward as the new Hyderabad franchise officially introduced itself to the world. In a packed and vibrant launch ceremony at Hyderabad’s Niaz Stadium, the team revealed its name — Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen — along with a striking new logo, signaling the dawn of a bold new era in the league.
The event featured fireworks, musical performances, and high-profile attendees, making clear the franchise’s intent to make a powerful entrance into the PSL. Reflecting the team’s confident positioning, the official caption posted on their social media platforms declared: “The pitch has a new ruler. The game has a new power. Multinational roots and star-powered roster
Acquired by the FKS Group during last month’s landmark auction at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad, the franchise was secured for PKR 1.75 billion (approx. US$ 6.25 million) — one of the most lucrative deals in PSL history.
The Kingsmen wasted no time in assembling an ambitious squad. Topping the list of signings is Pakistan’s Saim Ayub, the world’s No. 1 ICC-ranked T20 all-rounder, who became the most expensive Pakistani player in PSL history when he was picked up in the Platinum category for PKR 126 million (approx. US$ 450.5K).
Joining him are Usman Khan in the Diamond category for PKR 46.2 million (approx. US$ 165.2K), Maaz Sadaqat in the Emerging category for PKR 35 million (approx. US$ 125.1K), and Akif Javed in the Gold category for PKR 19.6 million (approx. US$ 70.1K). Australian star Marnus Labuschagne was also brought in as a marquee overseas signing through a direct contract, although his fee remains undisclosed.
International coaching setup to lead the charge
Backed by an equally impressive backroom staff, the Kingsmen are aiming high from the outset. Former Pakistan Test coach and Australian legend Jason Gillespie has been appointed head coach. He’ll be supported by Grant Bradburn as fielding coach, Craig White as assistant coach, Hanif Malik as batting coach, and Zac Martin as the strength and conditioning lead.
