Trade talks intensify between CSK and Rajasthan Royals
A high-profile player exchange between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals is reportedly in advanced stages, with both teams exploring the possibility of trading Ravindra Jadeja for Sanju Samson ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League season. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the discussions between the two franchises have moved beyond initial speculation and into serious negotiation.
Both Jadeja and Samson are ₹18 crore (approx. US$ 2m) players, making the trade a balanced one on paper. However, Rajasthan Royals are said to be seeking an additional player as part of the deal, a demand that could complicate the transaction. The Royals are understood to be insisting on the inclusion of South African batter Dewald Brevis, who joined CSK midway through last season and has since become one of the most sought-after young players in global franchise cricket.
CSK firm on stance, RR exploring other options
Chennai Super Kings have reportedly made it clear that they will not include any additional player in the proposed swap. The franchise considers parting ways with Jadeja—a cornerstone of their success and one of the world’s leading all-rounders—a major concession in itself.
The negotiations are being led on the Royals’ side by lead owner Manoj Badale, who is currently stationed in Mumbai to oversee discussions. Despite their focus on Jadeja, Rajasthan are believed to have also reached out to other franchises, including Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Kolkata Knight Riders, to explore alternative trade possibilities.
Meanwhile, sources indicate that Sunrisers Hyderabad are not keen on trading for Samson, given their strong opening combination of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma alongside Ishan Kishan. The Hyderabad franchise has also reportedly ruled out moving Heinrich Klaasen, dismissing ongoing speculation of a possible deal.
Dhoni confirms participation for 2026 season
Amid the trade speculation, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will return for the upcoming IPL season. “MS has told us that he will be available for the next season,” Viswanathan was quoted by Cricbuzz.
Dhoni, who played last season despite injury concerns, remains closely involved in the franchise’s strategic planning. According to the report, he continues to participate in discussions regarding player retentions and trades. A meeting involving Viswanathan, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and head coach Stephen Fleming is scheduled for next week to finalize CSK’s retention list ahead of the November 15 deadline.

For Rajasthan Royals, the pursuit of Jadeja represents a bid to strengthen their all-round department with an experienced match-winner capable of turning games single-handedly.
