Cricket star invests in eco-conscious travel gear brand with a hands-on role in design

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has invested in Uppercase, a next-generation luggage and travel accessories startup known for its sustainable design philosophy and utility-focused innovation. As part of the partnership, Bumrah will also actively contribute to product development, bringing his perspective as a frequent global traveler and elite athlete.

“It’s the way Uppercase has created something of substance in an area that’s highly crowded,” said Bumrah. “Their attention to sustainable materials, functionality, and aesthetics, and the fact that they’re achieving all this from India was truly impressive.”

From brand ambassador to hands-on innovator

Bumrah’s involvement goes well beyond endorsement. Drawing on years of experience navigating intense travel schedules, Bumrah will work with Uppercase’s design team to develop high-performance travel gear—including backpacks and gym bags tailored for athletes, professionals, and frequent flyers.

“There’s a lot that we’re going to investigate,” he added. “But to keep it simple I’m introducing the eye of someone who’s always traveling. Whether it’s extended tours or quick trips, I know the little things that make a huge difference in a bag. I want the design to be clean, functional, and actually useful particularly for individuals who travel frequently, such as athletes or professionals.”

Uppercase continues to scale with athlete-driven design

Founded with a mission to disrupt the travel gear space, Uppercase has quickly gained traction for its use of eco-conscious materials, sleek modern aesthetics, and emphasis on real-world usability.

Sudip Ghose, co-founder and managing director of Uppercase, confirmed Bumrah’s deeper engagement with the company’s design roadmap.

“As a part of this expanded partnership, Bumrah will take an active role in product development,” Ghose said. “He wants to design a backpack and a gym bag which is exclusively needed for sports.”

Bumrah focuses on impact-driven investments

This partnership marks Bumrah’s formal entry into the consumer startup space, guided by a philosophy of value-driven entrepreneurship.

“I am looking to invest in companies that I feel I can add value to and bring my perspective to product development,” Bumrah said. “I am not looking at specific sectors because impact on society can be found if we find it in the right place, and that’s what I am looking for in companies to invest in.”

The move places Bumrah among a growing group of athletes actively participating in India’s consumer innovation ecosystem—not just as faces of a brand, but as contributors to the products themselves.

With Bumrah’s design insight and international fan reach, Uppercase is poised to scale its presence in India’s premium travel gear market, while staying grounded in sustainability and smart design.
