England’s Jofra Archer has surged 16 places to reach a career-best third position in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings, following a standout performance in the ODI series against South Africa.
Despite England losing the series 2-1 — South Africa’s first ODI series win in England since 1998 — Archer’s return was a major highlight. He delivered figures of 4/62 and 4/18 in the second and third ODIs, with his spell at Southampton helping England record a 342-run win, their largest victory margin in ODIs.
Archer’s new position surpasses his previous best of eighth, achieved in September 2020, and marks a significant milestone in his comeback.
Adil Rashid, Joe Root also climb ICC rankings
Adil Rashid also made gains, climbing seven places to eighth in the ODI Bowling Rankings. His eight wickets at 9.00 apiece across the series were instrumental and earned him his biggest ranking jump since 2017.
In the ODI Batting Rankings, Joe Root returned to form with scores of 61 and 100, jumping five slots to 19th — his first appearance in the top 20 in two years. Jos Buttler also moved up seven places to 35th after scoring 62 and an unbeaten 61.
South Africa’s Matthew Breetzke made headlines by becoming the first batter to score fifties in each of his first five ODI innings, moving up 44 places to 64th, just ahead of England’s Jacob Bethell who rocketed 56 places to 65th.
