Jos Buttler has extended his association with Lancashire after agreeing a new three-year Vitality Blast contract that will keep him tied to the club through the end of the 2028 season. The deal runs alongside the former England Captain’s existing ECB central contract and strengthens Lancashire Lightning’s long-term white-ball plans despite Buttler’s continuing international and franchise commitments around the world.
The 35-year-old remains one of the most accomplished limited-overs players of his generation, having played more than 400 international matches across formats while scoring over 10,000 runs for England. His international record also includes 14 centuries and 75 half-centuries, alongside major ICC titles in both ODI and T20 cricket.
Buttler extends long-standing Lancashire association
Buttler first joined Lancashire from Somerset more than a decade ago and has remained closely linked with the club’s T20 setup ever since. His extension ensures Lancashire will continue to have access to his experience and leadership during periods of availability across future Vitality Blast campaigns.

My international and franchise commitments mean I can’t be around as much as I’d like, but whenever I do get the chance to play or spend time with the group, it’s something I really value. Winning the Blast with Lancashire in 2015 was such a proud moment for myself and for the Club and it would be great to play my part in another success in the years ahead. I’m delighted to extend my T20 contract and I’m looking forward to contributing on the field and helping the squad in any way I can in the push for Vitality Blast success over the next few seasons.”
Buttler’s wider T20 record underlines his value within the global franchise ecosystem. Across domestic and international competitions, he has scored more than 14,000 T20 runs, including eight centuries and over 100 half-centuries.
Lancashire underline Buttler’s influence beyond matchdays
Lancashire also highlighted the wider impact Buttler continues to have within the dressing room, particularly on younger players developing through the county system.
Director of Cricket Performance at Lancashire Cricket Mark Chilton said in an official statement: “Having a player of Jos’s quality and experience associated with Lancashire Cricket is hugely important and beneficial for us. Even if his availability is limited to short periods each season, the influence he has around the group is significant. The standards he sets and the insight he brings from playing at the very top level can make a real difference to our younger players and to our performances in the Blast.”
The extension arrives while Buttler is still involved in IPL 2026 with Gujarat Titans, who have already secured qualification for the playoffs. After a relatively quiet start to the campaign, the wicketkeeper-batter regained momentum during the second half of the tournament and has scored 302 runs from 14 matches at an average of 39.08 and a strike rate of 155.30.
Lancashire began their 2026 Vitality Blast campaign earlier this week and will hope Buttler’s renewed commitment provides further stability as the club pushes for another title run over the coming seasons.
