The Hong Kong Sixes Cricket Championship has secured a new sponsorship, stimulating the industry andprompting the Hong Kong team’s key players to aim for a medal at the Nagoya Asian Games.
The Hong Kong Cricket Federation announced on Wednesday (September 3, 2026) that the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes Cricket Championship will be sponsored by Indian sports company JSW Sports, significantly enhancing the event’s package. Hong Kong’s key cricket players, Nizakat Khan and Shiv Mathur, stated that the new sponsorship will stimulate the development of the local cricket scene and help attract more young players.
Furthermore, both players represent Hong Kong at the Nagoya Asian Games and hope to reach the top three and win a medal, aiming to secure more resources and funding to support more Hong Kong cricketers becoming full-time players.
The new Hong Kong Sixes Cricket Championship will be held on October 30, 31, and November 1 at the Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground. The Hong Kong Cricket Federation announced on Wednesday that it has signed a contract with Indian sports company JSW Sports to support the event’s package.
JSW Sports CEO appeared at a press conference following the signing ceremony of the Hong Kong Cricket Association on Wednesday. He stated, “JSW Sports’ sponsorship of the Hong Kong Sixes is absolutely significant. This is our first collaboration with an international sports brand event, and it naturally extends all our achievements in Indian sports. We are delighted to work closely with the Hong Kong Cricket Association to bring the same rigor and ambition to the global stage. This tournament has a long history in sixes cricket, and we will work with the Hong Kong Cricket Association to enhance the scale of the event, including expanding the audience, increasing commercial value, and helping the tournament develop into a truly global series.”
Burji Shroff, Chairman of the Hong Kong Cricket Association, said he was pleased to have JSW Sports as a business partner: “JSW Sports has extensive experience in cricket and the wider sports ecosystem, including working with top clubs and athletes. This experience is crucial for us to strengthen the commercial platform of the event and bring the Hong Kong Sixes to a wider international audience. Former Hong Kong team captain and current key player Nizakat Khan expressed his gratitude to JSW. JSW Sports supports the development of the cricket community: “JSW Sports’ support for Hong Kong Sixs Cricket helps the development of the local cricket community. Especially since cricket is a 2028 and 2032 Olympic sport, and with our participation in the Nagoya Asian Games this month, we believe it will attract more attention to cricket news.”
Nizakat Khan, participating in his third Asian Games, said the team’s batting leader aims to finish in the top three and win a medal: “If we can win an Asian Games medal, we can try to get more resources from the Hong Kong Sports Institute, and some teammates can switch from part-time to full-time. Having played in two Asian Games, if we can utilize that experience, and with the help of our new teammates, we are capable of achieving better results.”
The Hong Kong men’s cricket team is in Group A at this year’s Asian Games, alongside Malaysia and Oman; the top two teams from Groups A and B will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, who have already secured their places in the quarterfinals.
Shiv Mathur, a rising star from the Hong Kong team participating in the Asian Games for the second time, said, “Before the Asian Games, we flew to Japan to play against the Japanese team as a warm-up, aiming to reach the semi-finals or even the finals, with a medal in mind.” This high school graduate will soon fly to UCLA to handle his studies before flying to Japan to join the rest of the Hong Kong team. Mathur added that the addition of JSW Sports as a new sponsor to the Hong Kong Sixes Cricket Tournament will help improve the event’s packages, attract more fans, and even bring more star players to Hong Kong, making the tournament more exciting.
Anurag Bhatnagar, Director of Commercial and Marketing at the Hong Kong Cricket Federation, stated that with cricket becoming an Olympic sport, the mainland has increased resources to improve facilities and coaching levels, including the construction of the Taicang Cricket Sports Center in Taicang, Shanghai, and new cricket grounds in Zhejiang. Next year, an international tournament will be held, inviting the Hong Kong team to participate, which will benefit the long-term development of the cricket industry.
