Kent Cricket has received an eight-point penalty in the Rothesay County Championship after reaching the disciplinary threshold of four fixed penalties in a single season. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the sanction in accordance with the Professional Conduct Regulations.
The latest offence occurred during Kent’s match against Glamorgan on 24 July 2025, where Daniel Bell-Drummond was reported by the umpires for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision — a breach of Level 1(c) of the ECB’s conduct code.
Automatic penalty triggered by fourth offence
The match referee, Alec Swann, reviewed the incident and confirmed the Level 1(c) offence, which is defined as: “Showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action.”
Under Regulation 4.28 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations, a team is automatically penalised if its players accumulate four or more fixed penalties in a single County Championship season. With this latest infraction, Kent has now reached that threshold.

Following the fourth offence by Bell-Drummond, the ECB has confirmed the automatic deduction of eight Championship points. Kent Cricket has accepted the sanction and confirmed it will not appeal the penalty.

The penalty is a setback for Kent in the Rothesay County Championship standings, potentially affecting their chances in what has been a tightly contested Division campaign. The Club has not issued further comment beyond confirming it will comply with the decision.
