KL Rahul steps into team ownership with Goa Guardians

Indian cricket star KL Rahul has taken on a new role off the pitch — as co-owner of Goa Guardians, the 10th franchise to join the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League (PVL) powered by Scapia. This marks Rahul’s debut as a professional sports franchise owner, with the Guardians set to make their inaugural appearance in PVL Season 4 this October.

The team will compete in a fast-paced format designed for broadcast and digital audiences, as the PVL continues its rapid rise as India’s premier volleyball league.

“This feels like a full circle moment for me. PVL is a turning point for the sport in India. The bigger picture is to give volleyball the spotlight and screen time so that more people can watch it and love this sport. I’m thrilled to join the Goa Guardians not just as a supporter, but as a co-owner. Volleyball has always been a sport I enjoyed, and I’m excited to lend my voice and play my part in growing the sport in our country,” said KL Rahul, co-owner of Goa Guardians, in an official statement.

Building a platform for India’s next Olympic push

The Goa Guardians leadership group sees Rahul’s entry as a strategic boost for the team and for volleyball’s visibility across India.

“We are delighted to have KL Rahul join our ownership group. His passion for volleyball and belief in its potential will help us build a franchise that inspires fans and empowers athletes. Volleyball is one of the most played sports in the world, and with the right platform, it can become India’s next Olympic success story,” said Raju Chekuri, principal owner of Goa Guardians and founder of Netenrich, in an official statement.

Raj Chekuri, managing director of Goa Guardians, echoed the sentiment.

“It means a lot to have KL along with us, and we couldn’t have a better person join us on this journey. He truly shares our ambition of making India a dominant force in global sport. His involvement will help raise volleyball’s profile and create opportunities for the next generation of athletes nationwide,” said Raj Chekuri in an official statement.

League leadership sees long-term impact

KL Rahul’s presence in the league is expected to boost both fan engagement and PVL’s larger ambitions.

“KL Rahul’s support adds immense value to what we are building toward; the dream of seeing India compete in volleyball at the Olympic Games. His presence will attract more fans and accelerate the growth of the sport in India,” said Joy Bhattacharjya, CEO of PVL, in an official statement.

The PVL’s fourth season will run from October 2 to 26 in Hyderabad, with the Goa Guardians joining an expanding league that’s attracting investor attention, athlete participation, and growing broadcast interest.
