Lions Cricket are thrilled to have been named as the Sports Organisation of the Year at the 2023 Hollard Sports Industry Awards last Thursday evening. Having made the shortlist of four in early November, and the only cricket brand present, #ThePrideOfJozi are empowered by the recognition received from the season that’s been.

It was a season in which the Pride ‘Brought their Best’ in all they did, successfully hunting down 7 trophies, whilst declaring handsome financials to its shareholders.

The award serves as recognition for a hugely successful 2022/23 season, which included:

– Retaining the CSA One-Day Cup trophy for the 3rd consecutive year: DP World Lions Men

– Winners of the 2022/23 CSA T20 competition: DP World Lions Women;

– CSA Awards: 18 nominations

– Significant national team representation on all levels;

– Level 2 B-BBEE contributor status;

– Deaf Cricket Inter-Provincial Tournament champions;

– Blind Cricket South Africa One Day Cup champions;

– Unbeaten Academy and Colts teams throughout the past season;

– Inaugural CSA U19 National Tournament winners: Jeppe High School for Girls;

– CSA National Hub Challenge champions: The South Hub;

– A successful winter Club Cricket T20 competition in the Jozi Cup with over 1800 players participating ;

– The retention of our wonderful current sponsors and the attraction of new partners.

– Best financial results in the past 10 years

The decision to enter into this category only was strategic, so says Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright, with his team focusing all their efforts on topping the scoreboard when it comes to the country’s number one sports organisation.

“Our Pride is a small, yet powerful team of people that work smart, 24/7 and know the importance of serving the cricket community. We are humbled by this award and grateful to be recognised for our efforts on field and off it; and I assure you that there is so much more to come. A hearty congratulations to our Lions family: Your commitment to the game, the people and the future of this sport is admirable and I am energised, humbled and inspired by this award.”

Lions Cricket would like to give their heartfelt thanks the Hollard Sport Industry Awards, the judging panel and all those who made this year’s awards possible: A focused and steadfast Lions Cricket Pride promises to continue to proudly and passionately serve – every delivery, every day.
