The Melbourne Stars have officially appointed Andy Christie as head coach of their WBBL team for the next two seasons, signaling a fresh direction for WBBL|11 and beyond.
Christie brings extensive experience in women’s cricket, currently serving as head coach of the Victorian Women’s Team. He previously spent four seasons as Assistant Coach with the Melbourne Renegades, where he earned praise for his tactical insight and player development capabilities.
Christie brings strong player relationships and development experience
Beginning his career in female talent development at Cricket Victoria, Christie has built strong connections within the women’s game. His appointment is expected to bring continuity and high-performance leadership to a Stars side aiming for a finals return.
Melbourne Stars General Manager Max Abbott expressed confidence in Christie’s leadership:
“Andy has a track record of success at every level he has coached and brings great relationships with the playing group so we’re excited to see what he can achieve with the Stars.”
Abbott added that Christie’s involvement with many current squad members on a year-round basis will be a significant asset as the club targets an improved showing in WBBL|11.
Christie ready for challenge and believes in Stars’ finals potential
Speaking on his appointment, Christie shared his enthusiasm for the opportunity and belief in the squad’s potential:
“I’d like to thank the Melbourne Stars for their faith in me and I truly believe we have the group that can return this club back to the WBBL finals.”
He acknowledged the hard work ahead but said he’s eager to collaborate with Clint McKay, the T20 High Performance Manager, and the broader coaching team to maximize results.
With WBBL|11 approaching, Christie’s leadership will be crucial in helping the Stars unlock their full potential and contend for their first WBBL title.
