Mithun Manhas elected BCCI president unopposed; key committee changes announced

Leadership transition and unopposed election

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held its 94th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28, 2025, in Mumbai, ushering in a new leadership era and implementing several structural changes. Former domestic stalwart Mithun Manhas was elected unopposed as the 37th president of the BCCI, taking over from Roger Binny, who stepped down last month upon turning 70.

Manhas, a prolific performer in Indian domestic cricket with over 9,700 first-class runs, was backed strongly by the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association. With his appointment, he becomes the third former cricketer—after Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny—to take on the BCCI’s top administrative role.

Rajeev Shukla continues as vice-president, Devajit Saikia retains his position as secretary, and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has taken over as joint secretary. A. Raghuram Bhat has been named the new treasurer.

Electoral challenges dismissed ahead of AGM

Before the AGM took place, Cricbuzz reported that objections had been filed against the nominations of Harbhajan Singh (Punjab Cricket Association), Rajeev Shukla (Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association), and A. Raghuram Bhat (Karnataka State Cricket Association).

These objections were reviewed by BCCI Electoral Officer AK Joti and ultimately rejected. As quoted by Cricbuzz, BCCI Electoral Officer AK Joti stated that ‘Verification of Nomination Application filed on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association nominating Mr. Rajeev Shukla as the representative of UPCA is found to be complete in all aspects’.

Challenges related to Harbhajan’s advisory role within PCA and allegations involving Bhat’s past association with the KSCA were also dismissed following clarifications from their respective state units.

What’s next for BCCI

With a new leadership structure firmly in place, the BCCI is expected to focus on talent identification, grassroots development, and strengthening domestic cricket infrastructure. Mithun Manhas’s presidency is seen as a step toward greater regional representation and an emphasis on former cricketers in governance roles.

The newly formed committees, especially around the Women’s Premier League and junior cricket, signal a continued push for inclusivity and depth in Indian cricket’s administrative and developmental frameworks.
