London, UK — Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and US-based investment group Tech Titans have confirmed that London Spirit will retain its name as the franchise enters a bold new era in The Hundred. To signal their ambition, MCC has appointed Mo Bobat as the team’s new Director of Cricket, starting 1 October 2025 — the first major move ahead of the 2026 season.
Bobat arrives with an impressive track record, having recently served as Director of Cricket for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL — a role he will continue to hold — and following a distinguished spell as Performance Director for the England Men’s team. His appointment brings top-level leadership and a progressive vision to the franchise as it aims to build an elite high-performance environment for the next era of The Hundred.
Private ownership era for The Hundred
Last month, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that all eight franchises in The Hundred will transition to private ownership. As part of this change, MCC now holds a 51% stake in London Spirit, with the remaining 49% owned by Tech Titans, a US-based technology investment group.
London Spirit name to stay — new brand identity coming
The name London Spirit will remain central to the club’s identity, symbolising the capital’s energy, diversity, and cricket heritage. A refreshed brand identity is already in development and is set to launch in early 2026, blending the franchise’s bold future vision with the history and tradition of MCC and Lord’s Cricket Ground.
